This mod adds the Masquerader, a powerful illager boss who wears different masks, each giving him their own distinct attacks.
The Invitation:
Spoiler
Sometimes, pillager outposts and woodland mansions may have a Mysterious Red Envelope. These are invitations sent out by an Illager known as the Masquerader who is organizing a social event for some other Illagers, primarily outpost captains and other high-ranking Illagers. Open the envelope to reveal an invitation to a masked ball from the Masquerader and a map leading to the venue.NOTE: When opening the envelope, your game may lag for a couple seconds. This is because creating the map can take a bit to locate the structure.
The Ball:
Spoiler
Upon arriving "fashionably" late, you'll find yourself in a large ballroom. The ballroom contains many other Illagers who were invited and one particularly foolish villager. At least the mask keeps him safe and anonymous... for now. The Masquerader looks down upon the ballroom from above, immune to all damage while the rest of the Illagers are alive. Defeat the party attendees to battle the Masquerader himselfThe Masquerader:
Spoiler
The Masquerader wears different masks, each based on a different Illager:No Mask:
The Masquerader does just about nothing in this phase except for run at you with a sword. As soon as he drops below full health, however, things get interesting...
Mask of Evocation:
- Vexes: The Masquerader summons 15 vexes, each with 2 health. They die automatically when he puts on a new mask
- Fangs: The Masquerader can summon fangs in four different patterns: concentric circles centered on him, concentric circles centered on his target, lines, and directly and rapidly on top of his target
Mask of Displacement:
- Clones: The Masquerader creates 9 clones of himself all around you and they start shooting you with their bows. Find the real one, or wait a little while for them to disappear
- Mirror Image: Once his clones are gone, he can create four mirror images of himself that can't be hit, just like the Illusioner
- Blindness: Once his clones are gone, he can give temporary blindness to his target
- Fireworks: Once his clones are gone, he shoots fireworks instead of arrows in a triple shot pattern
Mask of Fury:
- Roar and Charge: The Masquerader roars and then charges forward in a straight line, knocking back and setting aflame mobs he hits
- Crossbow bursts: The Masquerader loads his crossbow and fires five bursts of five flaming arrows in rapid succession
- Axe: When not using another attack, he runs at his target with an axe
Mask of Arcanity:
- Potion Rain: The Masquerader rapidly brews many potions and throws them in the air, causing them to rain down all around him
- Throw Potions: The Masquerader throws potions at his target, which can be a variety of enfeebling effects and sometimes even be lingering
- Drinking: As soon as he puts on the mask, The Masquerader will drink a potion that grants him regeneration 2 and resistance 3. After a while, He'll drink a potion of healing. Any time while wearing the mask, he can also drink different potions under certain circumstances.
Loot:
Spoiler
When defeated, the Masquerader's mask slips off his face before he covers it in shame and quickly escapes. He drops some emeralds and a blank mask. With certain materials and a little bit of magic, this mask can be turned into one of the Masquerader's four masks:Mask of Evocation: When worn, with an empty hand, right-click the ground to evoke a line of fangs. 2 second cooldown
Mask of Displacement: When worn, with an empty hand, right-click the air to teleport a fair distance horizontally in the direction you're facing. does not go through blocks. 10 second cooldown
Mask of Fury: When worn, with an empty hand, right-click the air to roar, rocketing nearby mobs away from you and granting you strength 2 and resistance 2 for a short time after. 15 second cooldown
Mask of Arcanity: When worn, with an empty hand, right click the air to gain a beneficial potion effect; Fire resistance if you're on fire, water breathing if underwater, regeneration if low on health, and swiftness if none of the others. 30 second cooldown
A New Friend?
Spoiler
If by some miracle the Masked Villager survived your intense battle, you can trade with him. He'll convert any of the four special masks back into blank masks for a small fee in case you want to try out another.Raid Spawning:
Spoiler
If the Masquerader is present in a raid, he gets a forcefield that makes him immune to damage and does not go away until all other raiders are killed. To anyone who has played the Illage and Spillage mod before, this system will sound very familiar, and that's because it's the exact same system. If you also use Illage and Spillage, you can add the Masquerader to your Boss Randomizer, making it feel more in line with the other I&S bosses. However, due to how the forcefield is implemented in I&S, you can't have an official I&S boss and a Masquerader in the same wave or else their forcefields will be active forever.FAQ:

Can I use this in my video/modpack?
Sure! Just make sure to credit me and/or leave a link back to the original page here on Modrinth.
Can you make a port to version/mod loader? There are currently no plans for other version ports. As for mod loaders, no. I have never learned any other mod loader, nor do I plan to.
Do you have any more content planned? If so, what is it and when will it come out?
Next update the Masquerader will have a bossbar, but other than that no features are planned.
Alternate Textures:
Spoiler
This mod includes alternate textures for the Masquerader, masked Illagers, and the items made by a different artist. These are off by default and can be enabled in the config. See the last video in the "Showcases/Demonstrations" spoiler for a demonstrationShowcases/Demonstrations:
