About this release
- This is the last planned beta release before the full 1.0.0 release. The full release will change the Scepter of friendship crafting recipe and some related textures
- Recommended for everyday users
- Recommended for modpacks
- Forge will only receive the full 1.0.0 release. Use Fabric or NeoForge to try this beta
- The AvM Staffs wiki will be updated after Christmas. Refer to this changelog for information until then

Chromatic crystals
The ingredient of Scepter of friendship. Can be found in warm ocean ruins.
Royal staff rod
Infuse a Royal staff scrap into a Faint staff rod to get a Royal staff rod. See Royal staff in crafting recipe changes below.
Royal staff scrap
Renamed from Royal staff ingredient.
The in-game ID is still avm_staff:royal_staff_ingredient for compatibility.
It will not be removed while upgrading a world.
Faint scepter of friendship
A master level armorer has a 66.66% (I refuse to write down a brainrot number) chance of offering a Faint scepter of friendship for 2 Faint staff rods and 1 Faint scepter of friendship head.

AKA The blue staff, the lapis staff
A master level cleric has a 66.66% (I refuse to write down a brainrot number) chance of offering a Scepter of friendship for 1 Faint scepter of friendship and 3 Lapis lazuli.

Faint royal staff head item
The Royal staff head is no longer faint when crafted to make it more canonically accurate. See Royal staff head in crafting recipe changes below. It will be removed while upgrading a world.

The Royal staff is now crafted from Royal staff rods and a Royal staff head to make it more canonically accurate. It will be removed while upgrading a world.
Spectre enchantment
The bell staff applies the glowing effect regardless if it is enchanted with spectre.
Crafting recipe changes
Royal staff
Crafted from 1 Royal staff head and 2 Royal staff rods instead of their faint variants to make it more canonically accurate.
Royal staff head
Crafted from 5 Royal staff scraps in a [ or ] shape in a Crafting table. A Nether star is no longer required.
Royal staff scrap
- Redstone dust is required instead of Copper ingot
- Netherite scrap is required instead of Netherite ingot
New items in staff
Emerald block
- Acts as an infinite shield that cannot be broken.
- Can despawn certain entities (configurable using data packs) if they touch the staff's tip (the creeper will be defused instead of despawned).
- Protects against lightning bolts
Staff item behavior changes
Bell staff
- No longer immediately applies the glowing effect to align with vanilla bell behavior
- Efficiency enchantment increases its range
- Radius:
8 * (1 + efficiency) - When
bellStaffEspgame rule is set totrue:- Any entity (not just raiders) will get the glowing effect, even behind walls

Campfire, soul campfire
- Added flamethrower sound
- Make flight much easier
- You no longer need to crouch and jump to start flight
- Simply right click to fire flamethrower, then jump and look downwards anytime to fly
- Crouch while flying to hover in place
- Tilt upwards a bit to drift backwards without losing altitude
- Improve campfire flame code
Furnace, blast furnace, smoker
- A smarter
AIalgorithm makes it easier to smelt a heap of items on the ground - Added a smelting progress overlay message
- Blast furnace and smoker smelt twice as fast
- Slightly decrease attack damage
Magma block
- Slightly increase attack speed
TNT
- You can no longer (accidentally) blow up an impact TNT in your face if enchanted with Distant detonation
- An overlay message warns you if you try it anyway
New enchantments
Cohesion
- Maximum level: 5
- When a staff breaks (see new staff breaking mechanics below), each level increases the minimum number of dropped staff scraps by 5
- Can be found in woodland mansion chests (very rare)
Improved staff item insertion and removal
- Items in a staff can now be swapped with the item in the other hand
- Added an overlay message if insertion is not supported
- Added a block pickup progress overlay message
New staff breaking mechanics
When a staff breaks, it no longer disappers. Instead, it drops its item, 2 Faint staff rods, and 0-5 staff scraps (the ingredient the staff head is made of).
Staff renderer changes
- Changed staff model format
- Item position on top of the staff can now be specified
- Bright items, such as lit furnace variants and lit campfire varaints now light up in the staff when in the dark
- Enhance campfire flame effect
Other additions
- New advancements for obtaining each staff
- Pranked sound effect
bellStaffEspgame rule (default:false). See bell staff behavior changes above- Certain items can be enabled or disabled for each staff using data packs. See the mod's built-in datapack.
Other changes
- Enchanted or cursed Crown of King Orange can no longer be placed
- Impact TNT now only collides with non-noclip entities
Fixes
- Staff breaking particles are no longer missing
- Campfire flame no longer splashes in the water
- Spectators can no longer shoot projectiles from staffs
- Staffs can only hold a single item, even with commands
AvM Staff Mod 0.20.3
About this release
Minecraft 1.20.6 is no longer supported. Support for Minecraft 1.21.3 and 1.21.4 will be added later this year.
Caves and Cliffs curse has reached AvM Staff mod, and because I want to add complete features instead of rushed features (like 🇪 😉), the following has been delayed to the next release:
- Blue/Lapis/Villager Staff
This way, you get an update with gameplay improvements right now instead of a couple weeks later. Thank you for your patience.
The mod version now includes the loader and the version of Minecraft in the pre-release SemVer component instead of the build and patch components

The future of Forge support
Some of the dependencies dropped support for Forge in favor of NeoForge. I will update Staff mod for Forge as long as I see a demand for it and it's feasible to do so.
Note for mod developers
Forge builds of Staff mod after 0.14.0 are neither source, nor binary compatible with the Architectury (Fabric/NeoForge) builds.
